DIY Aromatic Tree + Garland Ornaments

These adorable tree + garland ornaments are sure to be a talking piece with the guests in your home. The aesthetic appeal of the adorable, homemade shapes will draw them over while the aroma will lift their spirits and leave them feeling in the Christmas spirit. They are simple to make and require ingredients you likely already have readily available in your pantry! This is a win-win for busy moms who love to make memories for their children but lack the time needed for more complicated recipes.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 c. Flour
  • 1/2 c. Salt
  • 1/4 c. Cinnamon
  • 1/2 c. Warm Water
  • Ribbon or Bakers Twine
  • Unbleached Parchment Paper or Silicone Slip Mat
  • Straw
  • Essential Oils (we suggest Christmas Spirit EO or Evergreen Essence EO)

DIRECTIONS:

  • Preheat your oven to 200 degrees.
  • Mix salt, flour, cinnamon, and water.
  • Knead the mixture into a ball. Add additional flour if you find the mixture to be too sticky.
  • Knead dough until there are no cracks + the dough is smooth (about 5 minutes). Refrigerate the dough for 1 hour.
  • Roll out dough until flat, about ¼ inch thick, on parchment paper or a silicone slip mat.
  • Use cookie cutters to cut out desired ornament/garland shapes.
  • Use a straw to punch a hole at the top of the ornament to add a ribbon or twine.
  • Place them on a baking sheet lined with unbleached parchment paper or silicone slip mat.
  • Bake for 2-3 hours. Let cool completely. Alternatively, you can leave them out to dry overnight.
  • Paint + decorate your ornaments as desired.
  • Once the paint is dry, tie a ribbon or bakers twine through the straw holes.
  • Add 2-3 drops of the essential oil of your choice (we love Christmas Spirit EO or Evergreen Essence EO for this project) to the back of the ornament/garland and hang it up to enjoy!
