Homemade Taco Seasoning
It’s National Taco Day! …so tacos are on the menu in our home tonight – I’m guessing they might be on your menu too!
Did you know that the packets of pre-made taco seasoning are filled with preservatives, additives, and colorings? It’s SO unnecessarily bad for your family when you can simply make a clean, homemade taco seasoning from ingredients I bet you already have in your pantry. And, as an added bonus, it will save you money too!
My favorite homemade taco seasoning recipe is inspired by The Pioneer Woman…I just choose to use all organic spices and salt that adds valuable minerals that our bodies need.
I simply mix all of the ingredients together and add to my taco meat after browning. (just like I would with the store-bought packets). I always make it in a bulk batch and store it in an empty spice jar – this way, it’s ready for the next time we have tacos! I provided the ingredients for a single batch below as well, in case you prefer to make it that way or don’t have enough of the seasonings on hand to make a larger batch.
INGREDIENTS FOR A BULK BATCH (equal to about 6 packets)
- 1/4 cup chili powder*
- 3 tablespoons ground cumin*
- 1 tablespoon paprika*
- 1 Tbsp. crushed red pepper*
- 1 Tbsp. salt (I suggest Redmond’s Real Salt or Pink Himalayan Salt)
- 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder*
- 1 1/2 tsp onion powder*
- 1 1/2 tsp. dried oregano*
- 1 1/2 tsp. black pepper*
