Nontoxic Dryer Sheets Recipe

If you’re ready for the next simple step to cleaning out the toxins from your home, ditch those dryer sheets! As a replacement for those SUPER TOXIC dryer sheets, here are a few simple options:

Option 1: Use wooly balls (like these) in your dryer. Add a few drops of essential oils of your choice for an aromatic touch. (We find that Purification EO and Lemongrass EO to be the best options for Laundry DIY’s.)

Option 2: Make DIY dryer sheets that you can throw in the dryer, just as you would the toxic dryer sheets from the store…minus the toxins! Here’s a super simple recipe for DIY Dryer Sheets:

DIY NON-TOXIC DRYER SHEETS RECIPE:

Supplies Needed:

  • 1 Large, 32 oz, Ball Mason Jar or similar glass jar of your choice for soaking fabric sheets.
  • 1 Small, 2 oz, Ball Mason Jar or similar jar of your choice for storing fabric sheets.
  • 1 cup Distilled White Vinegar
  • 10-20 drops of essential oils of your choice. We find Purification EO or Lemongrass EO to be the best choices for laundry.
  • Old t-shirt or fabric cut into roughly 7×7″ squares

Directions:

  • Cut up an old t-shirt or fabric into roughly 7×7″ squares.
  • Optional: serge or seam the edges so that your DIY dryer sheets last longer.
  • In large glass jar, mix 1 cup of vinegar with 10-20 drops of essential oils.
  • Secure the lid and allow the fabric to soak up the mixture.
  • Remove the fabric sheets from the large jar and squeeze out excess liquid into the same jar. Keep the liquid mixture in the large jar for resoaking later.
  • Once excess liquid has been squeezed out, fold the fabric squares and place into a small glass jar to store until ready to use.
  • To use: Place 1-2 fabric sheets into the dryer with your clothes/linens. Once the load is finished drying, place the fabric sheets back into the jar with vinegar + EO’s to repeat the process: re-soak, squeeze, and store for the next load.
  • Note: the vinegar smell will dissipate in the dryer and your clothes will be left with a light, refreshing scent from the EO’s.

Not a necessity at all, but I LOVE MY BAMBOO BALL LIDS! Here’s where you can get your own if, like me, it’s the little things in life that make you happy too! 😉
